Breast Implants

Hartford, Greenwich, Waterbury, Glastonbury - Connecticut

Once you have chosen to pursue a breast augmentation procedure, you will then have a variety of implant options available to you. Not all options are ideal for every patient. Your consultation with Dr. Foster will help you decide which options are best for you based on your aesthetic goals and concerns. Here is a brief list of these options. Click on the links for a complete discussion of each.

Incision options – There are four common incision options: inframammary (in the crease under the breast), peri-areolar (around the nipple), transumbilical (belly button), and transaxillary (in the armpit). Each of these incisions has specific advantages, and will ultimately determine where your scarring will take place.

Implant placement – Your implants may be placed above the pectoral muscle (subglandular) or under the pectoral muscle (subpectoral). There are several advantages and disadvantages to each placement option. For example, recovery time is generally quicker with subglandular placement, but your risk of capsular contracture is higher. Dr. Foster will discuss all the advantages, disadvantages, and risks of each option with you to help you decide which option is best for you.

Types of implants – There are several different types of implants on the market. Implants vary in size, shape, profile, texture, and filling (silicone or saline). As with your other options, implant types have specific advantages and disadvantages. Silicone implants are generally thought to have a more natural feel to them than saline. Some implants are adjustable, which allows them to be filled after they are placed. This can significantly reduce the incision size.

Dr. Foster has performed hundreds of breast augmentations and will know which implant types will work best for your particular goals and body type. If you live in the Waterbury, Connecticut area and wish to enhance your physique through breast augmentation, or if you have any further questions about implants, please contact Dr. Foster today.
