Breast Lift

Hartford, Greenwich, Waterbury, Glastonbury - Connecticut

Women who are satisfied with the volume of their breasts but who want to raise, re-contour, and add perkiness and firmness to their breasts are ideal candidates for a breast lift. Several things will cause breasts to lose their firmness over time. Pregnancy, breast feeding, weight loss, and aging are common causes. Even if you have not had children or lost any significant amount of weight, you can expect your skin to lose elasticity as you age. When skin loses its elasticity, your breasts are often the first casualty.

Procedure

A breast lift procedure (also called a mastopexy) involves the removal of excess skin, which allows the breasts to be reshaped and “lifted.” Most breast lift surgeries involve three incisions; one around the areola, one running vertically from the bottom of the areola to the inframammary fold (the natural crease under the breast), and one that runs horizontally along the inframammary fold.

Once these incisions are made, Dr. Foster can then remove skin above and below the areola, allowing the areola to shift upward. At no time are the areolas or nipples detached from important underlying tissue. This decreases the chance that you will lose sensation or have difficulty with breast feeding in the nipples and be able to breast feed after your surgery.

After Your Breast Lift

Recovery time is significantly shorter and less painful. Visible scarring is the main concern for most patients. Scarring of the incision around the areola is rarely noticeable since any scars tend to blend in well with areola tissue. Scarring along the inframammary fold is also unnoticeable since the incision is made along the natural crease. The vertical incision from the areola to the inframammary fold carries the highest risk of visibility. Dr. Foster takes extra time to ensure that this scar is sutured properly to minimize any visible scarring. If proper care is taken during recovery, this scar should be barely noticeable once healing is complete.
