The face is usually the first part of the body to show the visual effects of aging. Crow’s feet begin to appear, nasolabial folds become more pronounced, and lines on and around the lips begin to form and deepen.

Horizontal forehead lines and the vertical lines that form between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) are often the first wrinkles to appear, and the first to become pronounced, even while the face is totally relaxed. These particular wrinkles and lines tend to have a strong association with what sort of mood we are in. When these lines become pronounced and deep-set, we may not only look older, but also angrier, or more annoyed than we may actually be. This can have far-reaching negative social consequences. For these reasons, individuals with deep-set brow wrinkles are increasingly turning to browlifts to restore their youthful, cheerful appearance.

Procedure

Dr. Foster will perform a thorough examination of your forehead, brow, skin texture and thickness, facial muscle structure, and eyelid position during your initial consultation. You will also discuss what you do not like about your brow and forehead, and what exactly you would like to improve. With this information, Dr. Foster will be able to put together an individualized surgical plan that will be right for you.

Most browlift procedures involve making a series of incisions above the hairline and pulling the forehead back. Sometimes it is best to make incisions above the eyebrow, and stretching the skin down, particularly in men with receding hairlines. Glabellar lines are typically caused by muscle contracture, and are best treated by disturbing the muscles that cause this, either with surgery, BOTOX ® injections, or a combination of the two.

Most browlifts can be done on an outpatient basis using local anesthetic and sedation. Complications are very rare with this procedure, while patient satisfaction is very high. Most patients experience some swelling and discoloration, but can expect to return to normal activities within one week to ten days following surgery. Any sutures will be removed within a week.
