Rhinoplasty Questions

Hartford, Greenwich, Waterbury, and Glastonbury, Connecticut

What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure for reshaping your nose. It is also sometimes called nose reshaping, nose surgery, or even a nose job.

Is rhinoplasty a good procedure for me?

Rhinoplasty may be a good procedure for you if you feel self-conscious about the size or shape of your nose. Common complaints that rhinoplasty can fix include:

  • Nose is too large, too wide, or has flared nostrils
  • Tip is too large
  • Tip is crooked
  • Bridge is bent or humped
  • Nose is too masculine/feminine
  • Nose is out of proportion with face
  • Upturned nose

Rhinoplasty can fix all these visible deformities and address the partial or full obstruction of the nasal airway caused by a deviated septum.

Will I be awake for my rhinoplasty?

Dr Foster normally performs rhinoplasty under general anesthesia, but depending on the complexity of the procedure and your preferences, he may recommend sedation anesthesia.

Will I have to stay in the hospital after my rhinoplasty?

Not necessarily. Dr. Foster performs most rhinoplasties as outpatient procedures.

Will my nose be broken?

Some people are phobic about the breaking of the nasal bone during rhinoplasty, but in many cases this is not necessary. If it is necessary to get the best results from your rhinoplasty, Dr. Foster will talk to you about it during your consultation and discuss how to overcome your phobia.

How long will recovery take?

Swelling and bruising should reduce quickly. You should feel comfortable with the appearance of your nose within a week or two of the surgery.  It is best to limit strenuous activities, take time off work, and sleep with your head elevated for a few days.

When will the final results of my rhinoplasty be clear?

Rhinoplasty results last a lifetime, but they do take a long time to become final. Your nose will continue to heal for months after the procedure, subtly changing shape. The final results may take six months or a year to become visible
