The end of the year is a time for reflection on the previous year and celebration of the new year. Many people use this time to take a look back at photo albums to commemorate the current year as well as years past. If those old photos have you longing for a younger-looking face again, don’t worry. Wintertime is an excellent time to consider Botox and other injectables that we offer. Winter is a wonderful time for injectables because they can be performed super quick in our office, provide beautiful results, and are temporary. Meaning if you don’t like the results or change your mind, the effects will wear off in 4-6 months. We offer a variety of injectables, Botox, Juvederm, Perlane, and Restylane.
What is Botox?
Botox is by far the most common and popular form of cosmetic injections to minimize wrinkles and fine lines. It is an FDA-approved injectable made from botulinum toxin, a protein that is derived from bacteria. The toxin itself contains no bacteria and is 100% safe. The toxin, once injected under the skin, stops the release of acetylcholine in the surrounding muscles. Acetylcholine is the chemical that makes muscles contract, so when acetylcholine is blocked, the facial muscles that cause problem wrinkles relax. Botox is commonly used for crow’s feet, furrowed brows, and deep-set frown and smile lines.
What is Juvederm?
Juvederm is an injectable gel containing hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that helps keep skin hydrated and voluminous. As you age, your skin loses its ability to maintain levels of hyaluronic acid which keeps your skin from wrinkling. Juvederm is commonly used for wrinkles like smile lines and nasolabial folds.
What are Perlane and Restylane?
Perlane and Restylane are both produced by the same manufacturer and have the same active ingredient. The difference between them is that Perlane is thicker than Restylane making it better for use with deeper-set wrinkles. The difference in thickness is what makes them different than other hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm. During your consultation with Dr. Foster, you can determine which injectable will help you achieve your skin goals. In many cases, that’s a combination of these fillers.
